Storytelling Video: UServeUtah and CalvaryChapel Salt Lake, 2020.

While COVID-19 permanently closed several churches in Salt Lake City, Utah, Calvary Chapel, Salt Lake (CalvarySLC), kept its doors open by becoming a food bank, and despite the controversy surrounding a controversial presidential election, participated in Donald Trump's Farmers to Families Food Box Program. It became so popular in Salt Lake that CalvarySLC quickly drew additional donations from local grocers, and expanded their outreach by forming the Utah Food For Families organization. The story is a backdrop to this report about how t Utahans' service-oriented values garner numerous Americorps awards year after year.

Storytelling Podcast: Andrea McCarren/Raising America's Vet Dogs.
2022 Gracie Award,  Alliance for Women in Media

How could a simple line item on a bucket list save a life? Andrea McCarren, an award-winning veteran journalist, has the answer to that. I had the rare opportunity to interview Andrea and her colleagues to obtain the most intimate details about her journey raising service dogs for our military's wounded war veterans. She shares how one volunteer effort to raise a service dog transformed her entire life and is now defining her legacy.

"I'm proud of my age. I'm proud of what I've accomplished. I care much less about what people think of me - I'm more confident, and my career has shifted into a laser focus on the cause." -Andrea McCarren

Harvard Extension School Global Ambassador 2020 - 2022

Few honors in my life compare to being selected as one of 19 Harvard Extension School students worldwide to serve as a Harvard Extension School Global Ambassador.

I worked with the Associate Dean of Students, academic advisors, and officers of the Harvard Extension Student Association (HESA)  to develop, plan, and execute inclusive student events. It was inspiring to see a plan on paper develop into gatherings that brought our global community together for networking and friendship. Being able to utilize my editorial and marketing skills for my community was a rare privilege and I will always appreciate them for their belief in me as their HES Global Ambassador.

Above all, meeting and working with HES leaders and students around the globe was
a treasured experience.  Please enjoy looking at how our community came together below, and the ways we learned how to make a difference.

In Kennedy's Archives : Figure Skating

New York Times Journal Pressroom, Circa 1930s. Free for use.

Before the 21st century and digital archives, newsrooms included rows of filing cabinets loaded with thousands of photos and news clippings. They called those rooms "the morgue"  or "the tombs."

That's where I worked my first newsroom-related jobs in college; I helped reporters dig up references to the past from newsroom libraries at the Deseret News and The Salt Lake Tribune in Salt Lake City, Utah.

On the side, I covered local figure skating events. You can see some of that work here
